Junior High students in the Iowa Great Lakes area will have the opportunity for hands-on boating safety experience this June.  After completing the classroom Iowa Boater Education program junior high students can volunteer for the hands-on Spirit of America program to learn about canoes, kayaks, outboard boats, sailboats, PWC’s, and powerboats.

 

Spirit of America participants will also gain experience with the Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Rescue Boat and the DNR Lake Patrol boats headquartered at Gull Point.

Spirit of America is a nationally accepted Youth Boater Education Program designed to give the young boater hands on experience.  SOA is designed for Junior High students who have completed their Iowa Boater Education Certification and have a desire to take the next step and gain hands-on-experience with the operation of canoes, kayaks, flat bottom motor boats, runabout boats, sailboats and personal watercraft.  You will also have the opportunity to visit Gull Point Lake Patrol, experience what the water patrol officer does, ride one of their patrol boats along with riding the Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire and Rescue boat.
